2021 is speeding by us all and it’s difficult to believe that we’re more than halfway through the year! As I think about this fact and process the summer, one thing sticks out to me: We need the body of Christ. While this is a simple, foundational principle, I’ve been asking the question of how our need for each other can be acknowledged and carried out in our daily lives. In the current context of America, what does it mean to pull together?
I would first look to Paul’s prayer in Romans 15:5-7 ESV:
5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, 6 that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.
One of the best places to start in our journey to unity is gathering around how we can glorify God together. One way this is accomplished is through honoring each other in our speech. Do we talk about the other members of the body (1 Cor. 12), or do we bless them despite differences? I have been personally challenged to continue to humbly walk in this. Earlier this month we had six leaders from six different denominations come to Kansas City to unite around their love for Jesus. Many of them put their own reputations on the line. They each brought an aspect of the gifts that the Lord has given them to minister to the body of Christ and it was such a witness to what the Lord is wanting to do in the Church as a whole.
Another key to unity is the giving of our resources. We know from the Word of God that when you do something on earth, it is remembered by the Lord and turns into a blessing in Heaven (Matt 10:42). This is something we have experienced from each of you as you have sown financially into our family. Your financial partnership is laying up treasure in Heaven that will last forever (Matt 6:19-20). We are so grateful that you have chosen to unite with us. As we stand on behalf of America in prayer, you are also standing. As we labor to reach the next generation, you also labor. Some of us sow, some of us reap but we all work together to bring God glory.
I’m currently asking the Lord where our school should go for our spring ministry trips in 2022. This past year we were in Kansas City, Dallas, Seattle, St. Louis, Little Rock and Northern Indiana. Please pray with me for wisdom as we plan for the spring. We’re also looking forward to welcoming 245 students to our school in August with about 45 incoming freshmen.
Gabby and I so enjoy our role as parents. Owen is growing and changing every day and brings us a tremendous amount of joy! He fills our home with laughter and we thank the Lord for the gift that he is to us.
We could not do what we do without your support. Sending our love to each of you today!
